Materuni Village Experience
Beautiful Materuni Village is the last village before entering the Kilimanjaro national park. Materuni Village is approximately 1,900m above sea level. We are a home to a breathtaking view of Kilimanjaro and unique vegetation. Materuni Village Experience is one of the registered cultural tourism programmes with the Tanzania Tourist Board.
We are proud of ourselves on providing our clients with a once in a lifetime experience of cultural tourism and immersion. This immersive experience begins with our Guides. We are known for working with the local people and all of our guides were born and raised in the Materuni Village area.
MVE also believes in preserving the natural environment of the village. All the ingredients for meals are organically grown in the Materuni village and our own “Home-Stay” garden.
We believe in sharing our land with whomever we host and our well-educated and professional tour guides understand the importance of customer care. You will be in good hands.
Our Commitment to our community extends beyond our want to show tourists our lands. Our brand of tourism helps our Chagga people. We pay fair market prices for all goods used during our tours and 10% of all profit goes directly to our community foundation. Our foundation supports local clinics, pays for schooling, home rehabilitation, and buys food and other necessities for those most in need. Also we pay fairly to our guides ..the name of our NGO is called Tunajali Tanzania. Apart from Materuni Village Tours also we are able to arrange other day tours such as Kilimanjaro Day Hike, Kikuletwa Hotsprings, Arusha National Park visit with walking safaris, Moshi town tour, Arusha city tour, Moshi bike tours, Maasai village visits and much more.
At Materuni Village
Asmall rural hotel on the slopes of Kilimanjaro, immersed in a stunning natural setting, reached by a perfectly passable dirt road lined with fruit trees and lush bushes.
Whether you are preparing to climb the Kili or are on your way back, Materuni Homes is the perfect place for pre- and post-climbing, as it is located at a high altitude which allows acclimatisation before you start and is the environment you need to rest after the effort.
The ideal accommodation for families with children, couples, solo travellers and groups of climbers. It is a little hidden paradise where it is worth stopping and enjoying all the breathtaking African beauty. The ideal place for those who love being in contact with the wildest nature and being part of the local family of Elisante and Consolata, committed to their environment and to the cultural and economic development of the Materu community.

The Materuni Waterfall and coffee tour was an unforgettable experience! The natural beauty of the waterfall was simply breathtaking. The coffee tour was equally fascinating and provided insights into how coffee is processed locally 'from bean to cup'. What made the experience truly exceptional was my tour guide, Abdul. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and warm personality brought the tour to life, making it educational and fun. Abdul's passion for sharing the local culture made this visit a standout adventure. Be prepared to hike on steep and sometimes slippery hills, but remember that the beautiful scenery makes it all worth it. I highly recommend it! Raul M.VerifiedOzgun V3 September 2024Materuni waterfall and coffee experience Absolutely stunning tropical scenery! My guide Aidani knew a lot about the flora and fauna he pointed out all of the different banana plants, coffee plants, etc. It was also quite muddy the day we went so he was careful to make sure I didn't slip. The waterfall was breathtaking and definitely worth the dip in the cold water. We then went for the coffee making demonstration and we sang and danced while we hulled, roasted and grinded the coffee beans. This was followed by an amazing lunch by Chef Cerveste 😉 who made banana and meat soup (also bean and banana for vegetarian) and then rice and meat stew followed by fruits and avocado. Overall a fantastic day! Highly recommend for anyone who wants a day trip to explore near the Moshi area and the villages outside.VerifiedSimon29 August 2024Memorable trip to Materuni The walk up to Materuni was scenic and the waterfall was spectacular. We met him by chance but it was the best thing we did to use his services. He is immensely knowledgeable about the area and its people and culture and was very helpful and friendly. The traditional Coffee roasting experience is unforgettable. We also enjoyed nature and the waterfall. High recommended to visit the area and make sure you contact Mangi to guide you during your visitVerifiedArmelle D23 August 2024Change of scenery Lush vegetation, impressive waterfall. Very nice site. Apart from the finish at the waterfall which is a little more difficult the rest of the route is without difficulty. The guides and people of the village are nice, there is even the possibility to return by motorcycle taxi!VerifiedFabio D21 August 2024Slow tourism and authentic local culture in Materuni Sylvester was a fantastic host for us, we bring with us the nice memories we collected during our 2-nights stay at Materuni Homes! As well as hiking to the stunning Materuni Falls, we experienced the coffee making process and we did a cooking class with the local community. After our time there we felt connected with Materuni and we believe that our holiday would have been way less significant if we missed that. Totally recommended!
