Camping at Materuni Homes – A Peaceful Retreat in the Foothills of Kilimanjaro
If you’re looking to relax for a few days, find the perfect base to explore the Kilimanjaro region, or immerse yourself in the rich culture of the Chagga tribe, then the village of Materuni is the ideal destination.
Nestled in a picturesque setting among the lush rainforest at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, our small, peaceful property offers a unique camping experience.
Accommodation
We provide simple but high-quality tents (maximum 2 persons per tent), each equipped with a comfortable mattress and fresh bed linen. To maintain a quiet and exclusive atmosphere, we limit our capacity to just four tents. This means you’ll enjoy a peaceful environment throughout most of your stay. (The only exception is around lunchtime, when day visitors may arrive for our waterfall and coffee tours.)
While we aim to preserve the natural charm and authenticity of Materuni, we do offer basic comforts:
- Hot water available each morning and evening
- Proper bathroom with hot water
- Modern toilet with running water
Food and Dining
In Materuni, no one goes hungry. Surrounded by abundant local produce, we serve:
- A nutritious and simple breakfast every morning
- Optional lunch and dinner, prepared to suit your schedule and preferences (vegetarian options available)
- Meals can be served in your tent, in our covered dining area, or enjoyed outdoors. A small self-service bar provides free tea and coffee. Chilled soft drinks and beer are available at a modest cost.
